Industry info
Each year we handle about 9 million tons of fossil fuels, mainly coal and petcoke for major international electric utilities, at our reception and storage facilities in Rostock, Germany; Pietarsaari, Finland; Venice, Italy; Tarragona, Spain; and Seraing, Belgium. In Rostock we also handle a range of oil products.
The proximity between supply points—ports and mines—and power stations creates a strong competitive advantage. Our terminals are located in strategic locations, and that means we can play a key role in the supply chain for major coal-fired power and electricity stations in Germany, Finland, Italy and Spain.
Our terminals are well connected by road and rail. Coal is delivered to customers by conveyor belt, truck, or train, or reloaded onto vessels for transshipment.
Business are mainly import oriented, but in Tarragona, transshipment also represents an important part of the business, because of the up to 20.5 meter draft, which makes it the deepest terminal in the Mediterranean. It has a storage capacity of about 500,000 tonnes.
